An Advanced Placement (AP) course is an accelerated academic program developed by the College Board in the United States. These courses offer college-level curriculum and assessments designed to challenge motivated high school students and prepare them for college-level work. AP courses cover a wide range of subjects, including mathematics, sciences, languages, social sciences, and the arts. At the end of an AP course, students have the option to take the corresponding AP exam. Depending on their score on the exam, they may earn college credit or advanced placement in college courses. AP courses are widely recognized by colleges and universities, and successful completion of AP exams can enhance a student's college application and demonstrate readiness for higher education. East Rockaway High School offers a variety of AP courses. A description of these courses can be found in the Course Selection Guide.

A dual enrollment course is a program that allows students to enroll in college-level courses while still in high school, simultaneously earning credit towards both their high school diploma and a college degree. Dual enrollment provides students with the opportunity to experience the rigor of college-level coursework, explore academic interests, and potentially accelerate their progress towards a college degree. It can also save students time and money by reducing the number of credits they need to complete once they enroll in college full-time. East Rockaway High School offers a variety of dual enrollment courses. A description of these courses can be found in the Course Selection Guide.

Each year, high school students from all parts of Nassau County choose to add Barry Tech to their high school experience. In addition to a high school diploma, these students want a head start in learning skills needed for employment and/or more direction in what they want to study at college. In addition to taking academic courses leading to a diploma, every student attending a public high school in New York State is entitled to enroll in an occupational course of his or her choosing. Barry Tech offers about 40 different courses. East Rockaway High School has the opportunity to send a small number of students to Barry Tech each year. The program is open to students in grades 11 and 12. Please see your counselor with questions.
