East Rockaway eighth grader Adam Kolakowski named Long Island Young Scholar of Mathematics

East Rockaway Jr./Sr. High School is proud to announce that eighth grader Adam Kolakowski has been accepted into the prestigious Institute of Creative Problem Solving for Gifted and Talented Students at Stony Brook University. Adam has earned the distinguished title of Long Island Young Scholar of Mathematics, joining an elite group of students selected for their exceptional mathematical ability and problem-solving skills.
This highly competitive weekend program, which runs from September 2025 through April 2026, brings together some of the brightest young minds across Long Island. Participants will delve into advanced topics in mathematics, robotics, engineering, and research, while also preparing for the renowned American Mathematics Competition (AMC).
Admission to the Institute is based on a rigorous entrance exam, which many students attempt multiple times before being accepted. Adam’s achievement is even more remarkable given that he earned a spot on his very first try—a true testament to his dedication and talent.
