East Rockaway senior earns third place in Northwell Health art contest

Kylie Curtis, a 12th grade student at East Rockaway Junior/Senior High School, has earned third place among high school students across Long Island in the 2025 Northwell Health Erase the Stigma Art Contest. Her artwork, titled “Body Dysmorphia”, was recognized for its powerful depiction of mental health themes.
The contest, held during Mental Health Awareness Month, invited students from across the region to submit original artwork reflecting the theme “Finding Your Voice.” Submissions were evaluated based on originality, creativity and how effectively the artwork expressed the theme. Entries were accepted from three grade categories: elementary (pre-K–5), middle (grades 6–8) and high school (grades 9–12).
This initiative is part of Northwell Health’s school-based mental health partnership and aims to raise awareness, promote open conversations and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health. The contest emphasizes that mental well-being is just as important as physical health.
Winning artwork from each category will be featured on inspirational cards and displayed throughout Northwell Health campuses. Winners are also invited to attend the Erase the Stigma Winner Ceremony on May 18, where they will be honored for their contributions.
