Congratulations to East Rockaway High School sophomore Adam Kolakowski and AP Computer Science teacher Marie Cordaro for their contributions to the 2026 Presidential AI Challenge. Under Ms. Cordaro's guidance, Adam developed a web application, SmartPark, that addresses a common community challenge: finding available parking spaces in East Rockaway (and beyond).

The Presidential AI Challenge is a national initiative that brings students, educators and community teams together to solve real-world problems in their communities using AI-powered solutions. Students and educators of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to participate to “ignite a new spirit of innovation.” The challenge offers participants the opportunity to showcase their projects on a national stage.

Adam and Ms. Cordaro received certificates commemorating their participation in the challenge, signed by President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump. Ms. Cordaro plans to hang them in her classroom.

East Rockaway is proud of these two innovators for their impressive achievement and for leading the way in this new field.
