East Rockaway Board of Education reorganizes for 2026–27 school year

The East Rockaway School District Board of Education held its annual reorganization meeting on July 8 in the East Rockaway High School auditorium, officially kicking off the 2026–2027 school year.
Superintendent of Schools James DeTommaso took the oath of office, along with new board member Elizabeth Curtis. The board unanimously re-elected Peter McNally as president and Maureen Doyle as vice president. Both were sworn in to serve in their leadership roles for the upcoming year.
East Rockaway High School student Nora Smith was sworn in as the district’s Student Ex-Officio Board Member.
Additionally, Nereyda Amaya-Moran was reappointed and sworn in as district clerk, and Deputy Superintendent Michael Van Wart also took the oath of office.
Prior to the reorganization portion of the meeting, Mr. DeTommaso and the Board of Education honored recent East Rockaway High School graduates Charlotte Webster and Victoria Schaefer for being named valedictorian and salutatorian of the Class of 2026.
The district looks forward to a successful and productive school year ahead.
