East Rockaway Seniors honored with Seals of Biliteracy and Civic Readiness

77 members of East Rockaway High School’s Class of 2026 were recently honored at a special dinner for earning the New York State Seal of Civic Readiness and the Seal of Biliteracy. These distinctions, added to the students’ diplomas and recognized with a medal and certificate, acknowledge their academic achievement, civic engagement, and multilingual proficiency.
The Seal of Biliteracy is awarded to students who demonstrate a high level of proficiency in English and at least one other world language through upper-level language classes and special projects.
Equally impressive are the students who earn the New York State Seal of Civic Readiness, an honor awarded to those who perform well on state assessments, take upper-level Social Studies electives, and contribute positively to their community.
The Seal of Biliteracy celebrates linguistic and cultural diversity, while the Seal of Civic Readiness underscores the importance of informed, engaged citizens. East Rockaway High School is proud of these seniors for their hard work and commitment to excellence in both areas.
