Achievement
- Rhame Avenue has been celebrating PARP (Pick a Reading Partner) this month with a variety of schoolwide activities to promote literacy and a love of reading. They aim to reach 50,000 minutes of reading by the end of May.
- Second graders presented their Animal Habitat research projects to special guests earlier this month. The presentations featured not only research but also art, poetry and music.
- 100% of our athletic teams earned the scholar-athlete designation this spring with 95 East Rockaway students achieving Scholar-Athlete status.
- East Rockaway High School’s morning announcements crew earned 3rd place in the long-form news broadcast category at the recent BASH (Broadcast Alliance of Senior High Schools) Awards, an amazing achievement for their first year of participation.
- Paul Lynch finished 5th at the Nassau County track and field finals.
- Flag football made a valiant showing at the Nassau County finals, though it ultimately lost the match.
- Seal of Biliteracy presentations will conclude on May 28. Over 35 students from ERHS will earn Biliteracy distinction for the 25-26 school year.
- On May 19, the district-wide art show showcased the amazing talents of students in grades K-12. Congratulations to everyone who contributed.
- Other arts accolades this month include awards for our students from the Northwell “Erase the Stigma” art contest, the NYS Art Teachers’ Portfolio Project, the Huntington Camera Club, and the Congressional Honors.
- April Macias-Freire has been selected as this year's New York State Association of World Language Administrators (NYSAWLA) Student Scholarship recipient for her outstanding achievement in World Languages.


Innovation
- Fifth graders are preparing their projects for Entrepreneur Day, which will be held at the beginning of June.
- Sixth graders have been hard at work on their science projects, which were displayed at STEM Night on May 28.
- Lindsay Maleska has now successfully onboarded all 6th graders to Schoolinks, a program that supports college and career readiness.
- John Madden and Amy Weissman-Canale have worked hard this month on several activities and initiatives for Mental Health Awareness Month, including visits from our therapy dog Snoopy every Friday.
- Our AP Physics students participated in the Building Bridges contest.

Opportunity
- Virtual Enterprise participated in their final trade show of the year at the Javits Center in New York City, where they made over $165,000 in sales while competing against teams worldwide.
- 67 students met the requirements to receive the Seal of Civic Readiness at graduation this year.
- On May 15, East Rockaway hosted NYSSMA at ERHS. 900 students from across Nassau County participated. Big thank you to our 100 student volunteers from East Rockaway.
- On May 28, EMT classes underwent CPR training.

Connection
- Nuke’em night, which pitted the 5th graders against the 6th graders, was a big success.
- Centre Avenue students went on a field trip to the East Rockaway government offices to learn all about our local officials and how they help our community.
- Kristin Anisi, our Director of Humanities, is currently exploring improvements to K-12 grammar/writing curricula.
- The U.S. Marines were here recently and worked with our physical education classes.
- Our spring concerts on May 19 were a great success.
- AP Calculus students are working on their end-of-year projects, which connect calculus to real-world applications.
- Our annual STEM Night was held on May 28.
- Thank you to the community for your support and approval of the 2026-27 budget.
