East Rockaway Junior-Senior High School hosts annual districtwide STEM Night

On May 28, East Rockaway UFSD gathered students, families and staff for its annual districtwide STEM Night at East Rockaway Junior-Senior High School. The evening showcased curiosity and hands-on learning, with participants from every level of the district represented under one roof.
The main gymnasium served as the hub of the night's activity, where sixth-grade students from Centre Avenue and Rhame Avenue schools displayed their science fair projects alongside entries from middle- and high school students. The range of work on display, from environmental studies to functional engineering prototypes, reflected months of research, experimentation and creative problem-solving. There were also a multitude of STEM activities available for students to explore.
In one of the science classrooms, high school research students led visitors through their inquiry-based projects in a more formal setting, explaining their methodologies and findings firsthand.
A highlight of the evening was a presentation in the auditorium by the Center for Science Teaching and Learning, which brought a collection of live animals native to Long Island for attendees to see up close, adding an interactive dimension to the night.
The STEM Fair underscored the district's dedication to building a culture of scientific curiosity that grows alongside its students, from the earliest years of elementary school through graduation.
