East Rockaway's high school students take the stage at Long Island Science Congress

After East Rockaway's middle schoolers had their moment in the spotlight last Monday, it was the high schoolers' turn to shine. Several East Rockaway High School students presented their original research projects on Tuesday, April 21, at the Long Island Science Congress held at the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City.
Now in its 75th year, LISC brings together students in grades 7–12 from Nassau and Suffolk County schools each spring to showcase independent scientific inquiry. The Junior Division (grades 7–9) competed on Monday, April 20, followed by the Senior Division (grades 9–12) on Tuesday, April 21. Students who earn finalist recognition in their categories advance to the New York State science competition.
East Rockaway students can enroll in Science Research beginning in 9th grade, giving them several years to explore topics of genuine personal interest and develop projects of increasing depth. That sustained commitment was on full display at LISC, where each student brought months – or even years – of dedicated work before a series of judges and the broader community.
High school science research empowers students to think critically, solve real-world problems, and build confidence through hands-on discovery. East Rockaway is proud to see its students turn curiosity into innovation and achievement – and encourages more students to consider enrolling in the Science Research program starting in 9th grade.
