East Rockaway students shine at Long Island Math Fair

Four East Rockaway middle school students recently represented their district at the Long Island Math Fair (LIMF), a prestigious mathematics research competition held at Hofstra University on Apr. 24.
The LIMF, hosted by the Association of Mathematics Supervisors of Long Island (AMSLI), invites 7th through 12th grade students from across Long Island to explore mathematical topics beyond their traditional coursework. To compete, students must submit an original research paper and then present their findings in person to a panel of judges and fellow participants.
East Rockaway's delegation included two teams. Seventh graders Zayd Soofizada and Ethan Graham dove deep into the world of three-dimensional geometry, researching both Archimedean Solids and Platonic Solids. Their work earned them a silver award in their division. Eighth graders Arti Krasniqi and Godwin Chen captivated judges and peers alike with a presentation on Optical Illusions, exploring the mathematics behind visual perception.
The Long Island Math Fair offers students a rare opportunity to conduct authentic mathematical research and share their discoveries with a broader academic community – and East Rockaway's participants met that challenge head-on.
Congratulations to Zayd, Ethan, Arti, and Godwin on a remarkable achievement!
