First Grade Researchers Explore the World of Community Helpers

First grade students at Centre Avenue recently took on the role of researchers and authors in an engaging project focused on community helpers. Working collaboratively in small groups, the students selected a community helper to study and gathered information.
Using their research, our first graders created nonfiction chapter books designed to educate readers about their chosen professions. Each book highlighted key details such as important services they provide/goods they produce, where these helpers work, the uniforms they wear, and the tools they use to perform their jobs. Students also incorporated text features to clearly present the information they had learned.
To celebrate their efforts, families were invited into school for a special showcase. Proud students shared their books and taught visitors about the vital roles community helpers play, demonstrating both their knowledge and growing skills as writers and researchers.
