Sam's Weather School touches down at Centre Avenue Elementary

Centre Avenue Elementary School welcomed a special guest on March 5 when meteorologist Samantha Augeri brought her popular educational program, Sam's Weather School, to campus.
Ms. Augeri's credentials made an impression right from the start. An Emmy Award-winning meteorologist with more than two decades of experience – most recently with News 12 – she is now channeling that expertise into a new chapter, pursuing her master's degree to become an Earth Science teacher. In the meantime, she's taking her love of weather science on the road, visiting schools across the region to inspire the next generation of scientists.
Centre Avenue's youngest learners got a front-row seat to some serious weather science. Ms. Augeri walked students through live experiments that demonstrated how tornadoes and other weather events take shape when air masses of different pressures collide – turning what can feel like an abstract concept into something students could actually see happening right before their eyes.
The green screen moment was a clear crowd favorite. Students took turns stepping up to a professional microphone to deliver their own weather forecasts, getting a genuine taste of what it's like to be the person behind the camera.
Ms. Augeri also introduced students to the tools of the trade – rain gauges and other instruments meteorologists rely on to track and predict weather conditions – grounding the experience in real scientific practice.
It was exactly the kind of visit that sticks with students long after the school day ends: one part science lesson, one part performance and all of it brought to life by someone who clearly loves what she does.
