Peer Leaders Spread Holiday Cheer and Connection

East Rockaway High School's Peer Leaders transformed the high school library into a festive gathering space on Wednesday, Dec. 17, bringing together students across grade levels for an afternoon of connection and community building.
Over pizza, eighth graders mingled with juniors and seniors, sharing stories and getting to know one another through thoughtfully placed conversation starters at each table. Students reflected on their personal strengths and contributions, writing them on gift tags that were displayed on a gift-wrapped board – a visual reminder of the unique talents each person brings to the school community.
Now in its second year, the Peer Leaders group was established to foster inclusion and spread kindness throughout East Rockaway High School. The student-led organization hosts monthly events, initiatives and activities – many taking place in the high school rotunda – designed to strengthen connections and create a positive school culture.
Looking ahead, the Peer Leaders are already planning their next initiative: a de-stress station to support students during January midterms, continuing their mission to ensure every member of the East Rockaway community feels welcomed, valued and supported.
