Rhame Students Launch Red Ribbon Week with Elks Lodge Partnership
Students from Rhame Avenue School's World Cultures Group recently welcomed members of the Lynbrook Elks Lodge to campus for a special event marking the beginning of Red Ribbon Week and the culmination of Bullying Prevention Month.
During the gathering, students learned about the inspiring story of Enrique Kiki Camarena, the DEA agent whose courage and sacrifice led to the creation of Red Ribbon Week. Camarena's dedication to fighting drug trafficking and his ultimate sacrifice in 1985 sparked a nationwide movement to promote drug-free living and positive choices among young people.
Red Ribbon Week, observed annually in late October, serves as the nation's largest and oldest drug prevention campaign, reaching millions of young people each year. Through this kickoff event, Rhame students demonstrated their commitment to creating a safe, supportive school environment where all students can thrive.
