Student-Run Marketplaces Bring Learning to Life at Entrepreneur Day

Fifth-grade students at Centre Avenue and Rhame Avenue Schools in East Rockaway proudly showcased their creativity and business savvy during this year’s highly anticipated Entrepreneur Day. Centre Avenue hosted its marketplace on June 10 in the all-purpose room, while Rhame Avenue welcomed families and guests on June 12 in the school gym.
As part of their social studies curriculum focused on business and economics, students spent weeks planning and preparing their very own small businesses. From concept to creation, each student developed a unique product and brought it to life through a detailed business plan. The project was designed to be interdisciplinary, incorporating marketing, design and financial literacy skills.
Participants created business cards, catchy jingles, original logos and slogans - and even websites to promote their products. On event day, the young entrepreneurs set up shop and sold their items to parents, staff and community members who could purchase items easily using QR codes linked to each student’s digital storefront.
The event was more than just a marketplace; it was a celebration of innovation, collaboration and practical learning. Entrepreneur Day continues to be a favorite tradition in East Rockaway, giving students the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in a fun and meaningful way while inspiring future business leaders.
