TRANSPORTATION - PRIVATE AND PAROCHIAL SCHOOLS
2010-2011

It is the legal obligation of the East Rockaway School District to provide transportation for children of the District attending private and parochial schools outside the District.

This transportation is provided only when the following conditions are met:

1.  For elementary school transportation, when the child lives at least two miles from the private or parochial school but not more than fifteen (15) miles.

2.  For secondary school transportation, when the child lives at least three (3) miles from the private or parochial school but not more than fifteen (15) miles.

Forms for transportation requests may be obtained at the Business Office, East Rockaway UFSD, 443 Ocean Avenue, East Rockaway, NY 11518-1299, between the hours of 8:30 AM and 3:30 PM or by writing to the above address.  This request must be filed by  April 1, 2010.  (If you anticipate enrollment of your child in a private or parochial school in September 2010, even though your child has not been accepted as of this date, a written request for transportation should be made at this time). The application is also available on the district’s website:
www.eastrockawayschools.org.

The Education Law specifically states that application must be made annually for each new school year.  Parents of children with disabilities attending various schools need not apply for the renewal of transportation.

Requests arriving after April 1, 2010 will not be considered unless these requests are from new residents.  New residents should make application within thirty days after establishing residence in the District.
