Welcome to all! Laura Putelo and Jill Cote, Co-Presidents introduces the new Board:

 

Bridget Saporito - Recording Secretary - for approval of minutes.

Trish Maltempi - Treasurer - for approval of Budget.

Cathy Tierney - Corresponding Secretary - We are working on getting a website up and running.  The current e-mail address is rhameavepta@gmail.com

 

Received letter of resignation form Michaelene Cooper resigning from the Rhame Ave. PTA Board.  Thank you notes received from:  teachers and staff for the Luncheon; Steven Gioe (Class of 2009) and Mrs. Rauch who retired this year.

 

Lisa Aloisio - Cultural Arts - Assemblies - Large stack to go through.

 

Debbie McGeary and Theresa Barto - Ways and Means –

Gift wrap and candy sale will be in October

Suggestions for Fund Raising will be taken

 

Claudia Marx - Special Ed Rep. –

A group will meet once a month with ideas or concerns.  Last year two meetings were held and three people came.  Anything related to SPED can be discussed.  Special Ed also includes Enterprise.

 

Ms. Gerbert Teacher Rep. –

Ms. Gerbert was not present.  Mrs. Kreit spoke on her behalf and informed the members that Ms. Gerbert is the liaison for teachers and parents.  You can contact her by email at AGerbert@eastrockawayschools.org. She is vey happy to work with board and parents.

 

Special Guest Speaker –  Vera Gallagher from the East Rockaway Education Foundation

Good luck to new Board.  She has been on Foundation Board for ten years.  The Education Foundation is a partnership for school and community.  Its purpose is benefiting the children.  It is a not for profit group and is separate from the school district. It is open to everyone. We meet every month at 7:00 pm.

 

Principal Laura Guggino -    

“Welcome to the new families.  We at Rhame are a warm and nurturing school focusing                                                      on academics and socially. Delighted to be here everyday is a blessing.”  Programs                                                      are in tact, thanks to the budget being passed.”

                                                      

Book talk - First Book - “Inner Work of Mindful Parenting” - October 23, 2009 deadline.  Suggestions are welcomed for second Book Talk.  Heather at East Rockaway Library is getting book or you can go to Amazon.com.  A night meeting was suggested for Book Club. 

 

We already had Patriots Day and Constitution Day.  Thank you and have a great year!

 

General Information

The “Welcome Tea” and “Back To School Night” went great.  Thank you to Maureen Brower our Hospitality chairperson.  Membership had a big turn out.  Pickup an envelope, Frogs on the PTA bulletin board will represent our membership. Thank you to Jeanie Radigan and Tanya Irvine with the Bulletin Board.

 

Claudia Marx thanked Centre Ave., for inviting Rhame Avenue to the Carnival and making us feel at home to sell items to make money for Rhame Ave. PTA.  Rhame Avenue made $304.00 on t-shirts and towels.  Possibly doing something like that at Rhame and invite Centre Avenue. Trish Maltempi and Claudia Marx “We at Rhame can do this and bring schools together - Flip/flop Carnival with Centre.   

 

Thank you to Dee Esposito and Maryellen Haggerty for PTA Membership “Fill out a card and get a frog.” Last year’s membership is good till September 30th, 2009.  New parents become a member to vote.

 

Site Base Management:

2 year Special Ed Rep.           Jackie Murphy (candidate) and Christine Jaskowiak (candidate) Ballots will be filled out and counted.

 

Kristen Ochtera - Reflections

“Kickoff” Theme Search. This year’s theme is “Beauty Is……” Deadline will be November 9th.  Workshops to be discussed.

Jill Cote wants to start a walking club for parents after we drop our children off in the morning.

 

Walking Club with Mr. Hickey is only the perimeter of the school.

Mrs. DuBeau - Museums in Nassau County Pay $10 - tour (free dinner) and get it back when you get there.

 

A kindergarten parent Mr. Rick O‘Neil runs a charity for cancer.
