Dear Parents/Guardians:

In order to provide parents/guardians with information concerning convicted sex offenders who are living within this district, our school district benefits from a no-cost sex offender email alert notification program.  Parents for Megan’s Law (PFML) will e-mail district residents, who have registered, informing them of any new sex offender’s presence and direct them to their website where they can access a full copy of the notification.  In addition, at any time residents can go online and review the Sex Offender Registry for East Rockaway and/or other zip codes.

This procedure will allow all subscribers to be informed of any sex offender notification implemented within Nassau and Suffolk County – not just offenders residing within our school boundaries.  This process offers a timely notification while giving residents an opportunity to be informed of all offenders within Nassau and Suffolk County, at no cost to them.

Although the district does not send mailings when notifications are received, it will maintain these files for viewing, upon request, at the Superintendent’s Office located at 443 Ocean Avenue, East Rockaway, New York.  In addition, in the event that law enforcement informs the district of a resident sex offender, a detailed description of the offender will automatically be given to appropriate school personnel, as per our district policy.

You may register for this service either through www.parentsformeganslaw or through the district web address www.eastrockawayschools.org.  From the district website click on the PTA link and you will find another link to PFML.  Those without internet access may utilize this system by means of the Public Library or contact Parents for Megan’s Law for further instructions.

The PFML website is very easy to use.  Once you are connected to PFML look for the link, Sex Offender Email Alert Registration on the left side of the screen.  Click on the link and you will be prompted to create an account.  Please know that you do not have to make a donation to PFML in order to receive email alerts and have access to their system.  If you are using the website to see if there are sex offenders residing in a particular neighborhood, click on Sex Offender Search from the left side of the PFML home page.  Read the disclaimer and click on the box I understand and agree.  The next screen will contain open fields where you can enter information for your search.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this service, you may contact the Parents for Megan’s Law Helpline at 631-689-2672.

Sincerely,
