Dear Parents/Guardians:

In order to provide parents/guardians with information concerning convicted sex offenders who are living within this district, our school district benefits from a no-cost sex offender email alert notification program.  Parents for Megan’s Law (PFML) will e-mail district residents, who have registered, informing them of any new sex offender’s presence and direct them to their website where they can access a full copy of the notification.  In addition, at any time residents can go online and review the New York sex offender registry for East Rockaway and/or other zip codes.

This procedure will allow all subscribers to be informed of any sex offender notification implemented within Nassau and Suffolk County – not just offenders residing within our school boundaries.  This process offers a timely notification while giving residents an opportunity to be informed of all offenders within Nassau and Suffolk County, at no cost to them.

Although the district does not send mailings when notifications are received, it will maintain these files for viewing, upon request, at the Superintendent’s Office located at 443 Ocean Avenue, East Rockaway, New York.  In addition, in the event that law enforcement informs the district of a resident sex offender, a detailed description of the offender will automatically be given to appropriate school personnel, as per our district policy.

An application to participate in PFML is on the reverse side of this letter.  Subscription forms are also available by calling PFML directly at 631-689-2672 or by visiting their website at www.parentsformeganslaw.com. You will also find a link to PFML at the PTA link from the district’s website at www.eastrockawayschools.org.  Those without internet access may utilize this system by means of the Public Library or contact Parents for Megan’s Law for further instructions.

The PFML website is very easy to use.  Once you are connected to www.parentsformeganslaw look for the link, email alert program, in the center of the screen.  Click on the link and you will be able to access the subscription form.  Please know that you do not have to make a donation to PFML in order to receive email alerts and have access to their system.  If you are using the website to see if there are sex offenders residing in a particular neighborhood, click on NY sex offender registry from the PFML home page.  You will need to scroll down to accept the disclaimer, through two separate pages, and the third page will have a place for you to enter the zip code that you would like to search.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this service, you may contact the Parents for Megan’s Law Helpline at 631-689-2672 or visit their website at www.parentsformeganslaw.com.

Sincerely,

Dr. Roseanne C. Melucci
