ALTERNATIVE LEARNING PROGRAM for STUDENT SUCCESS

“ALPSS”

ABOUT THE ALPSS PROGRAM

The Alternative Learning Program for Student Success (ALPSS) is a specially designed program to meet the needs of a diverse population of students in grades 9 -12. Students who enter the program may have had difficulty with learning in a traditional classroom setting, truancy, cutting class and/or self-motivation. Our small group setting allows for more teacher-student interaction and many hands-on activities. Classes are conducted after traditional school hours in forty-five minute sessions, and taught by a combination of subject area and special education teachers. A Guidance Counselor and Social Workers work with the students individually or in small groups to promote overall well-being. The primary focus is to improve self-esteem, motivation and attendance, so that the students have the opportunity to obtain a Regents or local High School diploma.

MISSION

To provide all students the opportunity to learn and grow, academically, socially and emotionally in order to meet the challenges of the 21st Century
