MINUTES

Present: Members of the Board of Education: Linda Schmidt, Neil Schloth, Michaelene Abbott-Cooper; Patricia Nicoletti, Kristin Ochtera, Superintendent, Dr. Roseanne Melucci; and Director of Finance and Operations, Marcy Tannenbaum

1. The meeting was called to order by Linda Schmidt at 7:30 pm and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Neil Schloth.

2. Approval of Minutes – None

5. Action Agenda

A. Personnel

Upon motion by Neil Schloth, seconded by Michaelene Abbott-Cooper the following items #1-8 were unanimously approved:

1. Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, approve the probationary appointment of Frances Tursi to the position of science teacher (tenure area: science; certification status: initial), effective September 1, 2010, through August 31, 2013, at the MA, Step 1 annual salary set forth in the East Rockaway Teachers Association contract for the 2010-2011 school year.

2. Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, approve the probationary appointment of Evelyn Wing to the position of teaching assistant (tenure area: teaching assistant; certification status: permanent), effective September 1, 2010, through August 31, 2013, at the Step 3 annual salary set forth in the East Rockaway Teachers Association contract for teaching assistants for the 2010-2011 school year.

3. Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, accept the resignation of Marissa Mauro from her teaching assistant position (FTE 1.0), effective September 1, 2010; and further approve the part-time appointment of Marissa Mauro to the position of teaching assistant (FTE .5), effective September 1, 2010, through June 30, 2011, at the prorated Step 3 annual salary set forth in the East Rockaway Teachers Association contract for teaching assistants for the 2010-2011 school year and approve the part-time appointment (.5 FTE) of Marissa Mauro to the position of mathematics teacher, effective September 1, 2010, through June 30, 2011, at the prorated BA, Step 1 annual salary set forth in the East Rockaway Teachers Association contract for the 2010-2011 school year.

4. Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, accept the resignation of Eleni Campbell from her substitute teacher position, effective July 12, 2010.

5. Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, terminate the services of Dennis Moriarty from his assistant cross country track coach position, effective August 20, 2010.

6. Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, terminate the services of Laura Shemanski from her position as substitute teacher, effective August 30, 2010.

7. Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, terminate the services of Kim Vitacco, from her position as JV Soccer Coach, effective August 30, 2010.

8. Upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, approve the following temporary assignments at the hourly salary approved by the East Rockaway Board of Education:

a. Stennett McCarthy, part-time bus driver, effective September 1, 2010.

B. Other.

Upon motion by Michaelene Abbott-Cooper, seconded by Patti Nicoletti the following

items #1 & 2 were unanimously approved:

1. Approve the following resolution to refinance the School District’s 2001 Serial Bond:

Refunding bond resolution of the East Rockaway Union Free School District, New York, adopted August 30, 2010. Authorizing the refunding of all or a portion of certain outstanding serial bonds of said district, stating the plan of refunding, appropriating an amount not to exceed $2,000,000 therefore, authorizing the issuance of not to exceed $2,000,000 refunding serial bonds of the district to finance said appropriation, and making certain other determinations all relative thereto. A copy of the complete extract of minutes regarding this resolution can be obtained in the District Clerk’s Office.

2. Approve the award of the contract for transportation services for one (1) student to Robert Finley Middle School, to First Student, Inc., the lowest responsible bidder.

C. Budget Transfers

1. Upon motion by Kristin Ochtera, seconded by Neil Schloth the following budget transfer was unanimously approved:

a. Transaction No. 11-0004

10. Upon motion by Patti Nicoletti, seconded by Michaelene Abbott-Cooper and unanimously passed, the meeting was adjourned at 8:18 pm.
